COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENCE

The theory component is an essential part of becoming a helicopter pilot. Sometime before your helicopter flight test, you must have passed 7 multiple choice theory exams covering the following 7 subjects:

  • Human Factors (Study of the body’s limitations)
  • Aircraft General Knowledge (Engine and Helicopter Systems)
  • Aerodynamics (Understanding the various aerodynamic effects involved in flying)
  • Meteorology (Study of the weather and how to read aviation forecasts)
  • Navigation (How to read maps and plan flights)
  • Air Law (Understanding the rules and regulations surrounding aviation)
  • Operations Performance and Planning (How to calculate aircraft weight & balance)

Most subjects have a pass mark of 70% and exam duration varies between 1 hour 15 mins to 2 hours 30 minutes.

Utility Helicopters Theory Course
Utility Helicopters offer a 14 week training course covering all 7 subjects and the required CASA exam. You can view our course availability via the button below.

Course Outline is as follows:

  • Human Factors – 1 Week
  • Aerodynamics – 2 Weeks
  • Aircraft General Knowledge – 1 Week
  • Meteorology – 2 Weeks
  • Navigation – 2 Weeks
  • Operations, Performance & Planning – 2 Weeks
  • Air Law – 2 Weeks

Between each subject we allow two business days either side of a weekend to sit your exam.
We hope that by doing this, it will give you enough time to study and re-sit the exam if you are unsuccessful the first time, before we move on to the next subject. This additional support is what sets us apart from our competitors, however, we must stress that this is the only additional time we can give, as we need to stick to the schedule promised to all students.

If it is not possible to complete the exam before moving on to the next subject, we can provide you with additional tutoring and time after the course is completed.

Course Price: $7,000
Additional costs not included:

  • New Theory books $2,850
  • Second Hand Theory books – Contact Us
  • Exam Fees

How does our course differ from other companies?

  • It’s slightly longer to allow time for consolidation,  re-sitting exams if you don’t pass the first time and getting some much-needed flying time in!
  • Our intake sizes are much smaller to allow us to tailor your learning experience – To us, you are never just a number!
  • Only need help with a few subjects? No problem! Contact us to find out when we are sitting the subjects you require.
